1794w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 475px) 100vw, 475px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 Johann Conrad Brunner was a Swiss anatomist that is best known for his work with the pancreas and duodenum. \u00a0This fold out plate\u00a0displays both anatomical and skeletal conjoined twin fetuses, which is part of Brunner&#8217;s\u00a0medical dissertation <a href=\"http:\/\/id.lib.harvard.edu\/aleph\/006617952\/catalog\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Foetum monstrosum et <\/em><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000\"><a href=\"http:\/\/id.lib.harvard.edu\/aleph\/006617952\/catalog\" target=\"_blank\"><em>bicipitem<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>from the\u00a0University of Strasbourg published in 1692. \u00a0The thesis is bound together with about fifteen other titles almost all of which deal with\u00a0complications with childbirth.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/05\/KIC_Image_0003.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 271px) 100vw, 271px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 One of the earliest depictions\u00a0of conjoined twins appear on ceramics in the Moche culture in Peru. \u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/ora-web.swkk.de\/digimo_online\/digimo.entry?source=digimo.Digitalisat_anzeigen&amp;a_id=4218\" target=\"_blank\">Nuremburg Chronicle,<\/a>\u00a0also known as the <i style=\"color: #252525\"><a href=\"http:\/\/id.lib.harvard.edu\/aleph\/001527048\/catalog\" target=\"_blank\">Liber Chronicarum<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>is a well-known early printed book, published in 1493 which tells of the human history of the world\u00a0as related in the Bible. \u00a0It\u00a0was one of the first successful books that integrated text and illustrations together and also contains two color illustrations of conjoined twins.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2014\/08\/Nuremberg_chronicles_-_Male_Siamese_twins_CCXVIIr.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A dried specimen of conjoined twins can be found on display in an exhibit from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countway.harvard.edu\/menuNavigation\/chom\/warren\/about.html\" target=\"_blank\">Warren Anatomical Museum<\/a>, located at the Countway Library on the 5th floor. \u00a0\u00a0The text <em>Foetum monstrosum et bicipitem dissertatione hac inaugurali &#8230; cum
