They have an area devoted to preservation review, collections care, conservation treatment, reformatting preparation, and construction of protective enclosures.\u00a0 The volume <a href=\"http:\/\/hollis.harvard.edu\/?itemid=|library\/m\/aleph|013687064\" target=\"_blank\">Histoire de l&#8217;Asie<\/a> was in fragile paper covers with a slightly detached spine so they constructed a hardbound volume allowing one to look at it safely.\u00a0 Special enclosures are another approach to protecting an item especially when it is small or an unconventional shape or size.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2013\/08\/preservation-after_000002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone href=\"http:\/\/hollis.harvard.edu\/?itemid=|library\/m\/aleph|013706344\" target=\"_blank\">De Profundis<\/a> is now safely tucked away!\u00a0 Dust jackets often provide important contexual information about a volume particularly for the Santo Domingo materials which have a lot of fascinating covers chronicling drug culture and psychedelic experiences of the 60s and 70s.\u00a0 As one might imagine dust jackets can be pretty fragile and tear easily so the Lab uses a machine that encases the jacket in plastic to protect it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/houghtonmodern\/files\/2013\/08\/preservation-after_000011.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2568 alignnone\"
