While Farr\u00e8re\u2019s popularity has declined in the half-century since his death, his novels deal amply in Santo Domingo subject matter. <em>Les petites alli\u00e9es <\/em>is set in the French coastal city and military harbor of Toulon; the plot concerns young naval officers living and working there and entertaining themselves with the demimonde.
