{"id":171,"date":"2003-08-26T01:39:45","date_gmt":"2003-08-26T06:39:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/hoanga\/2003\/08\/26\/wow-yet-another-learning-disorder\/"},"modified":"2006-12-15T22:35:03","modified_gmt":"2006-12-16T03:35:03","slug":"wow-yet-another-learning-disorder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/hoanga\/2003\/08\/26\/wow-yet-another-learning-disorder\/","title":{"rendered":"Wow yet another  learning disorder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a91'><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\">New York Times<\/a> has an article on a disorder that seems tied with a subset of underachievers:<span style=\"font-family: monospace;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"rgb(204, 204, 204); font-family: times new roman;\">\"You can be truly smart and still struggle in life if you lack the<\/span><br><span style=\"rgb(204, 204, 204); font-family: times new roman;\">ability to plan, organize time and space, initiate projects and see<\/span><br><span style=\"rgb(204, 204, 204); font-family: times new roman;\">them through to completion, and you cannot resist immediate temptations<\/span><br><span style=\"rgb(204, 204, 204); font-family: times new roman;\">in favor of later better rewards.\"<\/span><br><br><br>It's an interesting read but I can envision more children being<br>diagnosed with this order and parents demanding that the school<br>systems pick up the tab for teaching their children how to cope.<br>Ouch.  I'm sure there'll be some parents who will help their<br>children in coping with this.  However, there will probably be<br>many more that don't.<br><br>Or maybe these people that are being diagnosed as such just need<br>to learn how to concentrate even if it takes more effort for them<br>than others.   It's a proven fact some people need more effort<br>to do certain things than others.
