{"id":714,"date":"2009-05-30T01:04:55","date_gmt":"2009-05-30T05:04:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/guorui\/?p=714"},"modified":"2009-06-04T15:04:49","modified_gmt":"2009-06-04T19:04:49","slug":"deng-yujias-new-attorneys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/guorui\/2009\/05\/30\/deng-yujias-new-attorneys\/","title":{"rendered":"Deng Yujia&#8217;s new attorneys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sina published an <a title=\"Deng yujiao\" href=\"http:\/\/news.sina.com.cn\/c\/2009-05-30\/014615703667s.shtml\">interview<\/a> of Deng Yujiao&#8217;s new attorneys, namely Liu Gang and Wang Shaopeng, who claimed that they &#8220;disagree the police&#8217;s conclusion that the case is a murder case.&#8221; The interview seems to show that Liu Gang and Wang Shaopeng are following strategy set by Deng Yujiao&#8217;s previouse attorneys Xia Lin and Xia Nan, who argued that Deng Yujiao&#8217;s case is not a murder case, but a self defense of attempted rape.<\/p>\n<p>The interview, however, never made clear that Liu Gang and Wang Shaopeng would argue for Deng Yujiao&#8217;s self defense. That they &#8220;disagree the police&#8217;s conclusion that the case is a murder case&#8221; could mean they agree that Deng Yujiao committed\u00a0intentional infliction of bodily injury, or some other crimes.<\/p>\n<p>The real question is whether they would argue for not guilty.
