Bush&#8217;s address to the <\/span><\/font>Second White House National Conference on Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, March 9, 2006<br \/><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans serif\" size=\"2\"><span style=\"font-style: italic;\"><\/span><br \/>&#8230; a recent survey of our Office of<br \/>\nFaith-Based and Community Initiatives, &#8230; of 20 large<br \/>\ncorporate foundations, found that only about 6 percent of their grants went<br \/>\nto faith-based groups. &#8230;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans serif\" size=\"2\"> I would urge our corporate foundations to reach beyond the<br \/>\nnorm, to look for those social entrepreneurs who haven&#8217;t been<br \/>\nrecognized heretofore, to continue to find people that are running programs<br \/>\nthat are making a significant difference in people&#8217;s lives.<\/p>\n<p><\/font><\/p>\n<p>\n<font face=\"arial, helvetica, sans serif\" size=\"2\">When we studied 50 large foundations, we found that one in five prohibited<br \/>\nfaith organizations from receiving funding for social service programs.  In<br \/>\nother words, there&#8217;s a prohibition against funding faith programs from<br \/>\ncertain foundations in the country.  I would hope they would revisit their<br \/>\ncharters.  I would hope they&#8217;d take a look at achieving social objectives<br \/>\n&#8212; make the priority the achievement of certain social objectives before<br \/>\nthey would make the decision to exclude some who are achieving incredible<br \/>\nprogress on behalf of our country&#8230;.<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Pres.
