In a statement to this newspaper, they added that they did have every portion of the work \u201cexpertly examined,\u201d but the \u201ctechnical errors\u201d of the author were not detected. Nothing prevented them from applying for an award for the book. It is now only thirty-seven places behind China\u2019s Tsinghua University (ranked 50 in the world), only thirty places behind the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (ranked 57 in the world), only forty-two places behind Peking University (ranked 45 in the world), only sixty-one places behind the National University of Singapore (ranked 26 in the world), only twenty-seven places behind Korea\u2019s Pohang University of Science and Technology (ranked 60 in the world), and, for another comparison, only eighty-two places behind the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (ranked 5 in the world). Sie h\u00e4tten zwar alle Teile des Buches &#8220;begutachtet&#8221;, aber die &#8220;handwerklichen Fehler&#8221; der Mitarbeiterin nicht bemerkt, sagen sie ZEIT ONLINE. Das allerdings hielt sie nicht davon ab, sich mit dem Buch auf den Forschungspreis zu bewerben.
