To differentiate between knowledge and insight is something that goes back as far as Plato. It is up to every academic now to carry this theory forward, and to bring it to bear on the German university reforms of the past few years. That would really not be a particularly exceptional achievement, but it could also not be taken for granted. The universities must put the theory into practice, in lectures and publications, through attentiveness and discussions. The standards of this process are not really very complicated, despite all the intricate methodology; however, its application fills an entire universe.

(To be continued)

Source: Schloemann, Johan, „Nach Guttenberg: Universitaeten in der Krise“, Sueddeutsche Zeitung Online, 25.02.2011, 09:30

*According to The Times of London, in its Higher Education Supplement [THES], World University Rankings, 2010, the Technical University of Munich, officially recognized by the German government as an “elite university,” is ranked 101 overall among the world’s universities.
