Not in Bavaria\u201d \u2013 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>During discussions on relaxing immigration regulations for qualified individuals who have skills that German companies urgently need, Bavaria\u2019s \u201cCouncil on the Future,\u201d created last summer by Premier Horst Seehofer, made an alarming discovery. A loss of international connections and relationships is threatening the quality of Bavaria\u2019s universities. In a special report, a committee of twenty-two prominent experts from areas such as the economy, science, unions, and religious institutions have complained that Bavarian universities are doing too little to attract researchers and students from other countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(To be continued)<\/p>\n<p>Source: Szymanski, M., und Thurau, M., \u201eInternationale Forschung? In 2009 it was ranked 55.<\/strong> At its current ranking of 101, the Technical University of Munich is far behind many universities in, for example, East Asia. It is twenty-two places behind the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (ranked 79 in the world), forty-three places behind China\u2019s Tsinghua University (ranked 58 in the world), fifty-two places behind the University of Science and Technology of China (ranked 49 in the world), sixty places behind the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (ranked 41 in the world), sixty-four places behind Peking University (ranked 37 in the world), sixty-seven places behind the University of Singapore (ranked 34 in the world), seventy-three places behind Korea\u2019s Pohang University of Science and Technology (ranked 28 in the world), and, for another comparison, ninety-eight places behind the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (ranked 3 in the world). Nicht in Bayern\u201c \u2013 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mitten in der Diskussion \u00fcber leichtere Zuzugsregeln f\u00fcr ausl\u00e4ndische Fachkr\u00e4fte kommt der von Regierungschef Horst Seehofer im Sommer berufene Beraterstab &#8220;Zukunftsrat&#8221; zu einem alarmierenden Befund: Der Hochschulstandort Bayern droht den internationalen Anschluss zu verlieren.
