The reason: the Humboldt ideal of a university was seldom realized. (http:\/\/www.arwu.org\/ARWUFIELD2009ENG.jsp) According to The Times of London, in its Higher Education Supplement [THES], World University Rankings, 2009, the Technical University of Munich is ranked 55 overall among the world\u2019s universities.
