By last year, around three-quarters of the twelve thousand courses of study at German universities had been converted to the new (for Germany) system of granting bachelor and master\u2019s degrees. From the very beginning there was resistance to these changes, in whole and in part, sometimes even in the form of student protests. (http:\/\/www.arwu.org\/ARWUFIELD2009ENG.jsp) According to The Times of London, in its Higher Education Supplement [THES], World University Rankings, 2009, the Technical University of Munich is ranked 55 overall among the world\u2019s universities.
