The Technical University of Munich* \u2013 At German Universities and Elsewhere in the Country, Bureaucrats of Every Kind Reign Supreme \u2013 1<\/p>\n
(NOTE: This report illustrates just how long and persistent German institutional memory can be, and who can embody it, even in cases where there may not be a direct link with a German university like the Technical University of Munich.)<\/p>\n
(Under the headline \u201cFormer East German Secret Police Informers Employed in the German Civil Service to an Extent that No One Suspected,\u201d a recent article in the Munich newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung began as follows:)<\/p>\n Up to 17,000 former East German secret police employees are said to be still working for the authorities in eastern Germany.
