These young academics made a net contribution of almost 14.5 billion dollars (9.8 billion euros) to the US economy in the 2006-07 academic year, according to Washington\u2019s Institute of International Education. Allan E. Goodman told The New York Times, \u201cInternational education is the fifth largest service sector export; it ranks higher even than medical services.\u201d Half the money goes back to the universities in the form of tuition, which can be as high as 40,000 dollars a year.
