Interviewer: Herr Mannheimer, how often does it happen that your audiences simply stop listening when you tell them about the atrocities you experienced?<\/p>\n Mannheimer: I make it easy for people. I tell them that there were 1,500 Jews who were hidden in Berlin, by Germans, during the Nazi period. I tell them that if I weren\u2019t a Jew myself, I don\u2019t know if I would have been one of those brave people, with enough enormous courage to save human beings who were being persecuted by the Nazis. And I go even further and say that I also don\u2019t know if I would have refused to obey the order to shoot Jews in Eastern Europe, just as some members of Hamburg Police Battalion 101 refused. Ich sage: In Berlin wurden 1500 Juden versteckt.
