Interviewer: But none of those people had any idea what was going on in the concentration camp?<\/p>\n Zaidenstadt: As a child, if you mentioned at home anything you\u2019d heard, then you were told, \u201cDon\u2019t repeat that to anyone, otherwise we\u2019ll all be locked up.\u201d Once in an air-raid shelter, in the presence of the wife of an SS member, somebody said that there was such a strange odor in the area around the camp, as if people were being cremated. The SS wife got really worked up and screamed, \u201cWhat in the world\u2019s got into you \u2013 saying something like that?\u201d After that everybody kept quiet again.<\/strong><\/p>\n (To be continued)<\/p>\n Source: Interview, D. Da ist die Frau des SS-Mannes regelrecht aufgegangen und hat geschrieen: “Was f\u00e4llt Ihnen \u00fcberhaupt ein, so etwas zu sagen?” Dann war man halt wieder still.<\/strong><\/p>\n Quelle: Interview, D.
