\u201cSullenness toward politics\u201d and a \u201cfeeling of exhaustion with elections\u201d are phrases that German politicians and commentators commonly use when describing the attitude of many German voters. The real situation is far worse than that, however. One third of Germans have lost all confidence in democracy as a political system.
