Did all that influence you at all?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Beitz: \u2018It was very important. For one thing, because my wife was the only ally that I had. She supported me, and I could speak with her openly. For another thing, my situation changed my view of life itself. I once saw a naked woman holding a child and standing on a board over an open pit and then being shot. I saw bodies lying in the pit, head to head, and I saw Jews there in the pit who were being forced to arrange the bodies and who were hoping that they might escape their fate by doing that. When I saw all that, I could hardly move. It was as if another person were seeing it all, not I\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(To be continued)<\/p>\n<p>Source:. Hat Sie das beeinflusst?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Beitz: \u201aDas war sehr wichtig. Zum einen, weil ich in meiner Frau den einzigen Verb\u00fcndeten hatte. Sie unterst\u00fctzte mich, und ich konnte offen mit ihr sprechen. Zum anderen hat es den Blick auf das Leben ver\u00e4ndert. Ich habe gesehen, wie auf einem Brett \u00fcber einer Grube eine nackte Frau mit ihrem Kind im Arm stand und dann erschossen wurde, dass in der Grube Leichen lagen, Kopf an Kopf, und in der Grube Juden waren, die man gezwungen hatte, die Leichen so hinzulegen, und dass diese Menschen hofften, auf diese Weise ihrem Schicksal zu entgehen.
