But just imagine: there was a German farmer named Helmrich who managed the surrounding estates and provided supplies for my own business. We used to sit together often, and talk about this and that \u2013 but neither of us trusted the other. It was only after the war that I learned that Helmrich was also carrying out rescue operations for Jews, along with his wife in Berlin. Mistrust and fear of being reported to the authorities silenced us. I often felt alone, and Helmrich did too, as his daughter later told me\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(To be continued)<\/p>\n<p>Source:. Aber stellen Sie sich vor: Es gab einen Landwirt Helmrich, der die umliegenden G\u00fcter bewirtschaftete und auch meinen Betrieb versorgte. Mit ihm sa\u00df ich oft zusammen. Wir redeten \u00fcber dies und das &#8211; aber keiner von uns vertraute sich dem anderen an. Erst nach dem Krieg erfuhr ich, dass auch Helmrich mit seiner in Berlin lebenden Ehefrau Rettungsaktionen f\u00fcr Juden durchgef\u00fchrt hatte. Misstrauen, Angst vor Denunziation verschlossen uns den Mund. Oft f\u00fchlte ich mich allein.
