Galicia, where I was, had belonged to the eastern part of Poland, the area that Stalin occupied after signing the non-aggression pact with Hitler in 1939. The NKVD, the Soviet secret police, maintained prisons there, and after the Germans attacked the Soviet Union in 1941, the NKVD killed a large number of their prisoners before retreating. In the prison in Boryslaw, there were only bodies, mainly those of Ukrainians. The Jews had to wash the bodies for burial, and the Ukrainian population beat up a lot of these Jews, as if they\u2019d been responsible for the murders committed by the Soviet secret police\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(To be continued)<\/p>\n<p>Source:.
