(Second Report) \u2013 21<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cRainer Neugebauer: \u2018Our citizens\u2019 group has often had the experience of seeing people attempt to make right-wing violence seem harmless or to play it down. The authorities will say something like, \u201cWell, it\u2019s only a barroom brawl.\u201d Even though there are previous convictions and other indications on the part of the attackers that indicate a neo-Nazi background to the event, the authorities don\u2019t see that, or they just ignore it\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(Moderator:) \u2018And the consequences are that young people who have the courage of their convictions and do something against right-wing violence often have to go into hiding afterwards, as here in the Brandenburg area.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Unidentified young man: \u2018Having the courage of your convictions \u2013 yeah, that\u2019s a tricky issue. I ask you, who really has that kind of courage? The average person here is just an onlooker. They see what\u2019s happening, but they don\u2019t do anything. And if you\u2019re the one who does something, nobody can help you, not the police, not anyone. Sure, you can have the police bring charges, but these days the courts won\u2019t do anything. Wer soll den Mut dazu aufbringen, sag ich mal. Der B\u00fcrger hier, der guckt zu. Der guckt zu, aber greift nicht ein. Na, helfen kann dir da ja keiner, weder die Polizei noch irgendwer anders. Man kann den zwar anzeigen, aber heutzutage wird so etwas ja gar nicht mehr bei Gericht verhandelt.
