German version below.)<\/p>\n<p>19 DECEMBER 2006, TUESDAY, DUSSELDORF, GERMANY<\/p>\n<p>Bureaucratic Theater of the Absurd \u2013 Even in Munich or at the Technical University of Munich? \u2013 7<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cClaudia Wassmann, M.D., PhD.: \u2018The people at the labor office classified me as a sort of long-term unemployed person, because as far as they were concerned, I hadn\u2019t worked for the previous seven years.\u2019 (All of her employment had been not in Germany, but in the United States, at the University of Chicago and at the National Institutes of Health in Maryland.) \u2018In cases of long-term unemployment, the labor office is required to reintegrate a worker into the labor market, and to do that as fast as possible, if the worker is going to be eligible for any unemployment benefits at all. The offer as a kitchen helper was the best way for them to achieve that.
