It is not apparent who could have written the material contained either in the first forty pages of alleged proof or in the second packet of items. It is also not clear who had an interest in making all of it available. Certainly there are many accusations against Professor Keil in those pages, but there is also material that seems to incriminate his successor. On the basis of an alleged receipt in Keil’s handwriting, his successor is supposed to have paid 16,000 euros to Keil for “the business of taking over my academic chair.” In an interview, Professor Stolberg (Keil’s successor) characterized the “alleged receipt” as “an utterly perfidious forgery and smear.”

Die Technische Universität München* – Promotionen: Würzburger Doktorfabrik – 20
Weder aus den ersten 40 Seiten noch aus dem zweiten Paket ist ersichtlich, aus wessen Hand das Material stammen könnte. Die Interessenlage ist alles andere als eindeutig. Zwar betreffen viele Vorwürfe Professor Keil, es gibt aber auch scheinbar inkriminierendes Material gegen seinen Lehrstuhlnachfolger. Der soll, ausweislich eines in der Handschrift von Keil angefertigten Eigenbelegs, 16.000 Euro an Keil gezahlt haben für das »Betreiben meiner Nachfolge«. Im Gespräch mit der ZEIT bezeichnet Stolberg den »angeblichen Beleg« als »eine höchst perfide Fälschung und Verleumdung«.
