The Technical University of Munich* – “Dubious Doctorates and Professors in Disrepute” – 1
Television Moderator: In the end, their doctorates have become a real burden for a lot of prominent people in Germany, resulting in resignations and humiliation.
The reason: plagiarism, and getting caught at it.
Our correspondents Tine Kugler and Ulrich Stoll have been looking into the various ways of dishonestly obtaining a doctorate in this country. Our reporters discovered that at German universities, with active help from professors, a doctorate in practically any field can be acquired, almost instantly. Moreover, there may actually be no need to copy the work of other people, although some cash will probably have to change hands, and the dissertation could consist of so few pages that it makes a mockery of any academic respectability.

Anmoderation: Doktortitel wurden zuletzt ja manchen Prominenten zu einer echten Last. Rücktritte und Schmach haben sie den Schummlern gebracht.
Weil die abgeschrieben hatten – und aufgeflogen waren.
Für die Spielarten unredlichen Promovierens interessierten sich seither unsere Autoren Tine Kugler und Ulrich Stoll. Sie fanden, dass man an deutschen Unis mit tatkräftiger Hilfe von Professoren, auch ganz ohne das heikle Kopieren fremder Texte, flink etwa zum Dr. med. werden kann – wohl auch gegen Bargeld. Und dann sind die Dissertationen häufig auch noch so dünn, dass sie jeder akademischen Würde spotten.
