The Technical University of Munich* – At German Universities: Scholarships, at Least in Theory – 7
So the preliminary last act in the scholarship drama had still to be played out. However, it soon followed: the Ministry of Education confirmed that instead of the 110,000 students who were supposed to be awarded scholarships in 2011, only 6,000 would receive such support. In 2012, instead of 160,000 recipients, there would be only 12,000.

*In the area of engineering/technology and computer sciences, according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities compiled by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Technical University of Munich, officially recognized by the German government as an “elite university,” is ranked with twenty-two other universities at 78 or below, well beneath such institutions as the Technical University of Denmark. That is, for example, seven places below Seoul National University. In 2010 the Technical University of Munich slipped from 55th place to 58th, according to the QS organization which in the past was responsible for The Times’ university rankings.

Die Technische Universität München* – Chance vertan: das Nationale Stipendienprogramm wurde diskreditiert – 7
Fehlte noch der vorläufig letzte Akt im Stipendiendrama. Der folgte jetzt: Statt der anfangs geplanten 110.000 Studenten sollen 2011 nur 6000 gefördert werden, bestätigt Schavans Ministerium, 2012 statt 160.000 nur 12.000.
