The Technical University of Munich* – German Universities Strapped for Cash? Get It from the Foreigners – 21
The institutions that demonstrate what is involved in all this are the unusually well-financed colleges of art in Germany. Due to their outstanding reputation world-wide, and their excellent study environment, these schools attract talented young people from across the globe. In some departments concerned with opera and musical instruments, foreign students make up sixty percent of the class. For them, the cost-free education counts for a great deal.

*In the area of engineering/technology and computer sciences, according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities compiled by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Technical University of Munich, officially recognized by the German government as an “elite university,” is ranked with twenty-two other universities at 78 or below, well beneath such institutions as the Technical University of Denmark. (http://www.arwu.org/ARWUFIELD2009ENG.jsp) According to The Times of London, in its Higher Education Supplement [THES], World University Rankings, 2009, the Technical University of Munich is ranked 55 overall among the world’s universities. That is, for example, seven places below Seoul National University.

Die Technische Universität München* – Alle mal herkommen! – 21
Wie das geht, zeigen in Deutschland etwa die außergewöhnlich gut finanzierten Kunsthochschulen, die dank ihres weltweit hervorragenden Rufs und ebenso exzellenter Studienbedingungen talentierte junge Menschen aus aller Welt anziehen. In einigen Opern- und Instrumentenfächern liegt der Anteil ausländischer Studenten bei über 60 Prozent. Kostenpunkt für die Ausländer auch hier: null Euro extra.
