The Deutscher Hochschulverband stated that they have always contacted the relevant district attorney whenever dubious advertisements for doctoral candidate advisers appeared anywhere in the country. They indicated, however, that investigations were actually carried out only in isolated cases. The president of the Deutscher Hochschulverband emphasized that now for the first time in Germany possible illegal dealings in the arrangements for doctoral candidate advisers were being widely investigated. He said that both science and the universities had an interest in this.

Der Hochschulverband erklärte, er habe die Staatsanwaltschaften immer wieder auf dubiose Anzeigen von Promotionsberatern hingewiesen. Nur in Einzelfällen sei es aber zu Untersuchungen gekommen. Es sei im Interesse von Hochschulen und Wissenschaft, wenn nun erstmals in Deutschland in diesem großen Umfang mögliche illegale Geschäfte mit Promotions-Vermittlungen unter die Lupe genommen würden, betonte DHV-Präsident Kempen.
