Federal education minister Annette Schavan predicted that there would be great damage done to science (in Germany) if the suspicions of the Cologne investigators are confirmed. In an interview on Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, Cornelius Weiss, former rector of the University of Leipzig, lamented the trend toward the commercialization of education and warned of damage to the image of (German) culture.

Bereits am Sonntag hatte Bildungsministerin Annette Schavan (CDU) einen großen Schaden für die Wissenschaft prognostiziert, falls sich der Verdacht der Kölner Ermittler bestätigen sollte. Der ehemalige Rektor der Uni Leipzig, Cornelius Weiss, beklagte am Montag im MDR eine wachsende Kommerzialisierung der Bildung und warnte vor einem Imageverlust.
