(NOTE: This report illustrates just how long and persistent German institutional memory can be, and who can embody it, even in cases where there may not be a direct link with a German university like the Technical University of Munich.)
Dennis Kluever, Schoenberg city councillor says, “We don’t have street democracy in this town, whereby an accidental majority can say, ‘This is the way we’re going to do things.’ Real democracy doesn’t work like that. Another important point is this: I am convinced now more than ever that we live in a state based on genuine principles of law, which are contrary to the old socialist form of ‘legality’.”

Die Technische Universität München* – „Stasi-Agenten sterben nie, manchmal werden sie Politiker“ – 6
(Bemerkung: Dieser Bericht veranschaulicht, wie umfangreich und hartnäckig das Langzeitgedächtnis deutscher Einrichtungen sein kann, und wer es verkörpern kann, auch in Fällen, worin es keine unmittelbare Verbindung mit einer deutschen Universität wie der Technischen Universität München geben mag.)
“Das ist nicht die Demokratie von der Straße”, sagt Dennis Klüver, Stadtvertreter von Schönberg, “wo eine zufällige Mehrheit sagt: ‘So wird es jetzt gemacht.’ Sondern, dass es anders funktioniert in einer Demokratie. Und das andere ist, im Gegensatz zu dieser sozialistischen Gesetzlichkeit, dass wir in einem Rechtsstaat leben, von dem ich zumindest überzeugt bin.”
