“In addition, the university, which is located in the ‘three countries triangle’ between Belgium and Germany, is not some spectacular isolated case. It is the expression of a surprising development: the Netherlands has become the country of first choice for German students studying abroad, ahead of the United States, France, and the United Kingdom. There are about 12,000 Germans studying in the country now – full time. Not even counted in this figure are the thousands of exchange students who stream into the country for one or two semesters on an Erasmus scholarship.”

Die Technische Universität München* – „Denn das Gute liegt so nah“ – in den Niederlanden – 5
„Dabei ist die Universität im Dreiländereck zwischen Belgien und Deutschland keineswegs ein spektakulärer Einzelfall, sondern Ausdruck einer überraschenden Entwicklung: Die Niederlande haben sich zum Zielland Nummer eins deutscher Studenten aufgeschwungen, noch vor den USA, Frankreich und Großbritannien. Etwa 12000 Deutsche studieren in dem kleinen Land im Westen – und zwar in Vollzeit. Die Tausenden von Austauschstudenten, die mit einem Erasmus-Stipendium für ein, zwei Semester ins Land strömen, sind in dieser Statistik noch nicht miteingerechnet.“
