Research in a Straitjacket, but Surely Not at the Technical University of Munich? – 4
“A lack of freedom for scientists and academics in Germany? But aren’t there everywhere signals of a take-off to new heights? The government’s ‘Excellence Initiative,’ its ‘High-Tech Strategy,’ the ‘University Compact 2020,’ the ‘Six Billion Euro Program for Research and Development,’ the ‘Colleges for Research in the Humanities’ – those are the plans and promises that Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research has, not to mention additional plans put together by the individual states and others. The European Union is also promising research councils and billions in support. There seems to be nothing but good news for science, coming not only from Germany but from every corner of Europe.”

Forschung im Korsett, aber bestimmt nicht an der Technischen Universität München, oder? – 4
„Unfreiheit? Standen nicht eben noch alle Signale auf Aufbruch? »Exzellenzinitiative«, »High-Tech-Strategie«, »Hochschulpakt 2020«, »Sechs-Milliarden-Euro-Programm für Forschung und Entwicklung«, »Kollegs für Geisteswissenschaftliche Forschung« – das sind allein die Pläne und Verheißungen des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung. Forschungsräte und Fördermilliarden verspricht zudem auch noch Brüssel. Aus Deutschland wie aus ganz Europa scheint es für die Wissenschaft nur gute Nachrichten zu geben.”
