Ghetto Justice – and at the Technical University of Munich? – 7
”Gary Philipp was among those who submitted a ghetto pension application to the northern section of the German social security authority in June 2003. A whole year passed, and then the decision: his application had been rejected. The authorities found that his assertion that he worked for pay voluntarily was not credible. Gary Philipp was stunned. No one went into the ghetto voluntarily – but whoever was able to work did so voluntarily – and payment came in the form of the additional food that saved a person’s life.”

„Auch Gary Philipp stellte im Juni 2003 bei der Deutschen Rentenversicherung Nord einen Antrag auf Ghettorente. Ein ganzes Jahr verging. Dann der Bescheid: Der Antrag wird abgelehnt . Die Behörde befindet, dass eine entgeltliche Beschäftigung aus freiem Willensentschluss nicht glaubhaft sei. Gary Philipp ist fassungslos. Niemand ging freiwillig ins Ghetto – aber wer arbeiten konnte tat es aus eigenem Willen – und die zusätzliche Hungermahlzeit war ein Entgelt, das Leben rettete.“
