{"id":166,"date":"2009-10-01T15:57:42","date_gmt":"2009-10-01T19:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/genderandtech\/?p=166"},"modified":"2009-10-01T15:57:42","modified_gmt":"2009-10-01T19:57:42","slug":"workshop-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/genderandtech\/2009\/10\/01\/workshop-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re excited for the  upcoming <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/genderandtech\/ruby-on-rails-workshop-for-women\/\">Ruby on Rails Workshop for Women<\/a> event.\u00a0 The enthusiasm of the ruby on  rails community has exceeded expectations.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #ffffff\">We\u2019re proud that we\u2019ve  been able to offer <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/genderandtech\/ruby-on-rails-workshop-for-women\/childcare\/\">childcare<\/a> to our attendees who might not have otherwise been  able to attend and due to a generous donation made by Julia Ashmun, the referral  fee has been waived!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #ffffff\">The focus of the event  is to encourage women to participate in open source development.\u00a0 So workshop coordinators made the  request that men who wish to attend find a woman to sign up who might not  otherwise have considered checking out a tech event.\u00a0 There was never any  intention to exclude men from the event, but rather enlist their help in  broadening the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #ffffff\">So in response to  community feedback and to be as inclusive as possible, we&#8217;re opening the event  up to anyone who would like to attend &#8212; girl geeks, boy geeks, and all geeks in  between.\u00a0 Just <a href=\"http:\/\/womenonrailsworkshop.wufoo.com\/forms\/register-for-the-ruby-on-rails-workshop-for-women\/\">sign up here<\/a>.
