In October I <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/fensterm\/2008\/10\/09\/beyond-vietnam-beyond-iraq\/\" target=\"_blank\">echoed the warning Martin sounded a year to the day before he died<\/a>. It has gone unheeded.<\/p>\n<p>Seventeen days ago marked the sixth year since the onslaught of &#8220;shock and awe&#8221; in Iraq.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legalleft.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harvard&#8217;s Legal Left<\/a> commemorated the day with a talk by Pakistani-British journalist and activist Tariq Ali.  <a href=\"http:\/\/media.www.hlrecord.org\/media\/storage\/paper609\/news\/2009\/03\/19\/News\/Tariq.Ali.Tears.Into.Goals.Of.Endless.Afghanistan.War-3676144.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">He had some positive notes about very recent events reported in the Harvard Law Record<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But most of his remarks were sobering and echoed remarks made <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democracynow.org\/2008\/9\/16\/tariq_ali_on_the_duel_pakistan\" target=\"_blank\">on Democracy Now! and in his book The Duel: Pakistan on the Flight Path of American Power<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-720\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/fensterm\/files\/2009\/04\/dk-ta.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"333\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Duncan Kennedy introducing Tariq Ali<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-721\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/fensterm\/files\/2009\/04\/tariq-ali.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"393\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Tariq Ali<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Tariq was erudite, knowledgable about &#8216;facts on the ground&#8217; and eloquent. But no less eloquent was a security guard from Nigeria with considerable anger at the arrogance and ignorance of Americans, &#8220;Afghanistan is a giant killer!
