That&#8217;s HarvMinSpeak for workers whose jobs are at Harvard, but they are technically employees of agencies that contract with Harvard. They are subject to the strongest tool Harvard has in it&#8217;s almost fourty year long campaign to drive the Union movement out of Harvard.<\/p>\n<p>Their contract expires this Friday Sept. 23, 2011.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1808\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/fensterm\/files\/2011\/09\/615SecG2-092111.jpg\" alt=\"Sign carried by Security Guard members fo SEIU 615 employed at Harvard\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/fensterm\/files\/2011\/09\/615SecG2-092111.jpg 540w, https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/fensterm\/files\/2011\/09\/615SecG2-092111-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Two Crimson articles by Mercer Cook provide good background to recent events on the Labor front.\u00a0 First we have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2011\/9\/19\/mays-workers-school-delegation\/\" target=\"_blank\">a small action of &#8220;direct&#8221; employee custodial workers at Harvard Law School.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second article describes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2011\/9\/12\/contract-dining-workers-hall\/\" target=\"_blank\">the successful negotiation of a new contract for UNIT-HERE! i.e. Harvard&#8217;s cooks.<\/a> Normally when anyone connected in any way with Harvard declares a moral victory, I get nervous. But you can take Ed Childs&#8217; word to the Credit Union.* OOPS! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2011\/9\/21\/workers-harvard-contract-vote\/\">Dining Service Worker contract is not a done deal<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>In both cases a significant role was played by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hcs.harvard.edu\/slam\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harvard Student Labor Action Movement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Y&#8217;all come back now! hear?<\/p>\n<p>*I&#8217;m incurably cute, but there is a point.
