W<\/em><\/strong>ith a pause in the major action at the Democratic Convention, I thought I&#8217;d do some non-demanding administrative work this evening here at <em>f\/k\/a<\/em>, and tell you about the two haiga calendar pages we created for September 2008.<\/p>\n<div class=\"storycontent\">\n<p><em> <strong> <\/strong><\/em>Below are sample-sized calendar pages for September from both of our free online 2008 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poetrylives.com\/SimplyHaiku\/SHv6n1\/haiga-modern\/introduction_haiga_mod.html\">haiga<\/a> calendars \u2014 the &#8220;artsy&#8221; <em><a href=\"..\/files\/2007\/12\/giacalonehaiga2008calendar.doc\">Giacalone Bros. Haiga Calendar 2008<\/a><\/em> (with photos taken by my brother Arthur) and the nostalgic  <a title=\"fkaHaigaMemoriesCalendar2008\" href=\"..\/files\/2007\/12\/fkahaigamemoriescalendar2008.doc\"><em>fka<\/em> Haiga Memories Calendar 2008<\/a> (with shots snapped in the 1950&#8217;s by Mama Giacalone). [FYI: Haiga are pictures (paintings, sketches, or photos) combined with a subtly-linked haiku or similar poem. We played with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0781915\/\">Paolo Seganti<\/a>, Yu&#8217;s son-in-law and grandson Marcello (who let us old guys win).<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few of <em>dagosan<\/em>&#8216;s bocce haiku and senryu to celebrate.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>night game \u2013<br \/>\nbocce balls kissing<br \/>\nthe harvest moon<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">pallino gets<br \/>\nthe only kiss &#8211;<br \/>\nblind date bocce<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>greatgrandpa\u2019s bocce balls \u2013 <span style=\"font-family: Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif;font-size: x-small\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/Bocci.jpg\" alt=\"bocci\" \/><\/span><br \/>\nthree generations<br \/>\nchoose sides<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>backyard bocce &#8211;<br \/>\ntonight we\u2019re<br \/>\nthe noisy neighbors<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">girls against guys \u2014<br \/>\nwhite (wine)<br \/>\nbeats red (wine)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>afterwords<\/em><\/strong> (Aug. 28, 2008): Thanks to a post <a href=\"http:\/\/abovethelaw.com\/2008\/08\/fall_recruiting_open_thread_va_23.php\">at <em>Above the Law<\/em><\/a>, I learned this afternoon that the nearly-600-lawyer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.venable.com\/\">Venable LLP<\/a> law firm in Washington, D.C., offers its attorneys the perk of &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vault.com\/companies\/company_main.jsp?co_page=1&amp;ch_id=242&amp;product_id=7800\">bocce on the roof<\/a>&#8221; at its offices (575 7th St. NW, right near my old office at the FTC).  Despite preferring lawn bocce, I think I could enjoy a roof-top game on a summer evening &#8212; especially if it were mosquito-free, and a few non-lawyers got to play, too.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>. . .
