It&#8217;s not helping my mood that I&#8217;ve been trying to produce a post [which I hope to complete by this evening] about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/11\/29\/nyregion\/29estate.html?_r=1&amp;bl&amp;ex=1196485200&amp;en=d9cff4767794ed01&amp;ei=5087%0A&amp;oref=slogin\">riskless $42 million legal fee<\/a> charged by Graubard Miller to the aged widow of the Lawrence real estate fortune (and have seen the mostly uninspiring reaction of the blawgiverse; two exceptions <a href=\"http:\/\/legalblogwatch.typepad.com\/legal_blog_watch\/2007\/11\/can-legal-fees.html\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.overlawyered.com\/2007\/12\/lawrence_v_graubard_miller.html\">here)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>married a decade<br \/>\nshe hides<br \/>\nthe mistletoe<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>married a decade    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/files\/2007\/12\/santaduden.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nhe buys new mistletoe<br \/>\nfor the office<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;. by <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/dagosans-archives\/\">dagosan<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/TannTree.jpg\" alt=\"TannTreeG\" \/><\/font>   After <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portfolio.com\/views\/blogs\/daily-brief\/2007\/11\/30\/its-been-a-embleak-houseem-kind-of-week-in-court\">reading<\/a> that three Graubard attorneys just went over and asked Alice Lawrence for a large bonus\/gift in 1998 (and got $5 million), I decided to try a little self-help of my own.  So, I wrote last night to Prof. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/hilary-tann-archive\/\">Hilary Tann<\/a>, who works down the street at Union College, asking whether she had any holiday haiku or senryu I could share here at <em>f\/k\/a<\/em>.  To my delight, the Welsh-born music <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hilarytann.com\/bio.html\">composer<\/a> quickly wrote back with four poems, and after searching deeper into her haikai oeuvre sent two more this morning.  So, while procrastinating and stopping for lunch, I also get to share a few of Hilary&#8217;s holi-ku with you:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Christmas lights<br \/>\nmy eye is drawn<br \/>\nto the house with none<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>red bows decorate<br \/>\nthe  &#8216;Closed for the Season&#8217;<br \/>\nsign<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Christmas service    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/files\/2007\/12\/santaduden.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nthe old carols<br \/>\nwith no back-beat<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. by <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/hilary-tann-archive\/\">Hilary Tann<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>I&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>m not sure what I&#8217;m going to do about Mrs. Lawrence&#8217;s plight, or my own anemic holiday spirits, but I am grateful to Professor Hilary for helping me get a little farther down the road to a Happy Holiday Season.
