{"id":7797,"date":"2007-07-19T10:19:53","date_gmt":"2007-07-19T15:19:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2007\/07\/19\/7797\/"},"modified":"2011-08-05T14:53:46","modified_gmt":"2011-08-05T18:53:46","slug":"outfit-oratory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2007\/07\/19\/outfit-oratory\/","title":{"rendered":"outfit oratory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font size=\"1\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><font size=\"1\"><font color=\"black\" face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><font size=\"1\"><font color=\"black\" size=\"2\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">   <\/font><font face=\"Arial\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/clhanger.gif\" alt=\"clohanger\" \/>   <\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font>I said it here two years ago today and &#8212; after overhearing a few conversations recently at a restaurant &#8212; I&#8217;m going to say it again, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2005\/07\/19\/males-dont-wear-outfits\/\">males don&#8217;t wear outfits<\/a>&#8220;!    Indeed, in 2005, I pleaded:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[N]o loopholes, ladies: neither boys, nor babies and toddlers of the male gender, wear \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/define.asp?key=outfit*1+0&amp;dict=A\">outfits<\/a>\u201d \u2014 no matter how cute you may think their clothes look.  Of course, there are times when males wear uniforms or costumes, and men may even be members of an outfit, but they do not wear outfits. See: the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cowboylyrics.com\/lyrics\/truckers-drive-by\/outfit-1253.html\">lyrics to \u201cOutfit\u201d<\/a> by Drive-by Truckers, from their 2003 album \u201cDecorationDay\u201d . . .<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For examples of female people wearing outfits, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/slideshow\/2007\/07\/18\/fashion\/20070719_VERS_SLIDESHOW_1.html\">Gianni Versaci&#8217;s Legacy<\/a>, in today&#8217;s <em>New York Times<\/em>, where Versace&#8217;s death 10 years ago is remembered in &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/07\/19\/fashion\/19VERSACE.html?ex=1342497600&amp;en=e22e057c38f864d3&amp;ei=5090&amp;partner=rssuserland&amp;emc=rss\">The Murder on Ocean Drive<\/a>&#8221; (July 19, 2007).
