{"id":7772,"date":"2007-07-04T08:26:40","date_gmt":"2007-07-04T13:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2007\/07\/04\/go-4th-and-celebrate\/"},"modified":"2011-08-05T14:53:46","modified_gmt":"2011-08-05T18:53:46","slug":"go-4th-and-celebrate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2007\/07\/04\/go-4th-and-celebrate\/","title":{"rendered":"go 4th and celebrate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/files\/2007\/07\/fireworkssmn.jpg\" \/>   As usual, National Public Radio has accumulated a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=5525163\">parade of Independence Day stories<\/a> and features, including the history of the Stars and Stripes, memories of the Vietnam War from July 4, 1967, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, and reminders that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=5533089\">150 million hot dogs<\/a> will be consumed in America today (along with more beer than St. Patrick&#8217;s Day &#8212; and, probably,  more kegs stolen), tips for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=5532806\">photographing fireworks<\/a>, and much more.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> <em>Update 10PM<\/em>:  The Yankee Doodle Editor of <a href=\"http:\/\/blawgreview.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/our-country-right-or-left.html\"><em>Blawg Review<\/em><\/a> has accumulated a lot of annotated links to interesting July 4th postings across the so-called blawgiverse.  He was even nice enough to mention <em>f\/k\/a<\/em>. Meanwhile, the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/07\/04\/opinion\/04wed2.html?ex=1341201600&amp;en=8802fbf5289f858b&amp;ei=5090&amp;partner=rssuserland&amp;emc=rss\">New York Times<\/a><\/em> has an editorial with a most apt message:  &#8220;It is a day to ask how good a job \u2014 from the world\u2019s perspective \u2014 we are doing living up to the principles enunciated in the Declaration of Independence, whether we have done enough to make those sonorous old rights seem like more than a limited case in a limited argument. The answer is more equivocal than we like to believe. But the ideal is one that must drive us all.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/files\/2007\/07\/flag-mast.thumbnail.gif\" alt=\"flagsMast\" \/>  As we have declared our independence from punditry, all the <em>f\/k\/a<\/em> Gang wants to add  to our coverage is a few haiku. Art was the proprietor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.historicstockade.com\/historycenter\/arthursmarket.htm\">Arthur&#8217;s Market<\/a> here in the Schenectady Stockade Historic District for almost 60 years.
