poetry has been as difficult to birth as punditry.\u00a0 To no one&#8217;s surprise, however, our energetic Honored Guest and haijin friend <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/stories\/storyReader$3710\"><strong>Ed Markowski<\/strong><\/a> has returned from a haiku vacation as inspired and productive as ever.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"32\" alt=\"napperStump\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/files\/2006\/08\/napper%20gray%20sm.gif\" width=\"60\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s a lot easier to nap-in-peace with guys like Ed on deck or at bat.\u00a0 Here are some of his recently-penned one-breath gems:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 thunder<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the black lab&#8217;s bark descends<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 into a whimper<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>lightning<br \/>\ni lose control<br \/>\nof the jigsaw<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 lazy afternoon<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 i even toss the keepers<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 back into the stream<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 summer night<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 two moths flutter down a moonbeam<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to the porchlight<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\nsummer sunset<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0 my grandson&#8217;s right hand<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 popsicle orange<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 crows<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the buzz of electricity<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 surging through the power lines<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>loneliness<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0 a fly circles<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 &amp; settles elsewhere<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Of course, baseball is never far from Ed&#8217;s mind in <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"56\" alt=\"at bat\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/files\/2006\/08\/at%20bat%20neg.gif\" width=\"40\" \/><br \/>\nsummer &#8212;
