Eliot <\/font><\/a>Spitzer<\/font><\/a> — for whom I will almost certainly vote, should he<\/font> receive the <\/font>gubernatorial nomination for the Democratic Party,<\/font> as now <\/font>seems nearly inevitable — has been flooding our airwaves<\/font> and <\/font>cable lines with election ads for well over a month. The ads<\/font> are so self-congratulatory, self-righteous, and self-consciously<\/font> serio-heroic, that I appear to have only two options to salvage<\/font> my sanity [and supper]: 1) watch no commercial television until<\/font> after Election Day, or 2) move far beyond the reach of Spitzer’s<\/font> campaign ads.<\/font><\/p>\n

Frankly, I don’t think I have the sitzfleish<\/em> necessary to subject<\/font> myself to more <\/font>Spitzer2006<\/font><\/a> television ads. Luckily, I listen to<\/font> virtually no commercial radio, so radio-induced nausea has not<\/font> been a problem. <\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As we <\/font>pointed out<\/font><\/a> last December (reacting to <\/font>Prof. Bainbridge’s<\/font> question: <\/font>Spitzer = Thug?<\/font><\/a>), in German: <\/font><\/p>\n

\n

– the noun <\/font>spitzer<\/font><\/a> is a sharpener; <\/font><\/p>\n

– <\/font>spitze<\/font><\/a> is acuteness, the pinnacle, a sting or a prick; <\/font><\/p>\n

– the verb <\/font>spitzen<\/font><\/a> is to nib or sharpen.<\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Candidate Spitzer is indeed way ahead in all the polls, But, his ads <\/font>are nibbling away at the enthusiasm of a growing number of his supporters. Already seen as ” a sting or a prick” by his opponents, Spitzer may soon be seen as His Nibs<\/a><\/em> by television viewers across the State,<\/font> most of whom can never hope to have enough sitzfleish<\/em> to sit through Spitzer2006 camgaign ads for the next 5+ months.<\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"vote<\/font> Mark Gilbert has pondered <\/font>“The unintended economic consequences”<\/font><\/font><\/a> of Eliot Spitzer’s actions as NYS Attorney General. I worry about the<\/font> demographic consequences, as we all head for the nearest State line.<\/font> Blitzfleishers heading for the exits.<\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
