April Fool&#8217;s &#8220;humor&#8221; will be everywhere,<\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">and scarcely any of it is likely to be funny or <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">original.<\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">                                                                              <em>not!<\/em> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/LAUGHMANsmall.gif\" alt=\"laughing man small\" \/><\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">If you&#8217;re thinking of writing your own piece of <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">fun April 1 <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">humor or satire &#8212; please reconsider.  If you must do so, <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">kindly avoid writing posts<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"> that are made to look and sound <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">authentic, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">and declare that well-known or beloved people <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">are dead. [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.legalunderground.com\/2005\/04\/tragedy_strikes.html#comments\">you<\/a> <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">know who you are]<\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">In a wonderful piece of April First honesty, Bert Foer, the <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">president of <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.antitrustinstitute.org\/\"><font color=\"black\">American Antitrust Institute<\/font><\/a>, revealed today <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.antitrustinstitute.org\/recent2\/492.pdf\">There Is Nothing Funny About Antitrust<\/a> (AAI, March 31, <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">2006).  Discussing a confidential report by Attorney General <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Gonzales, Foer quotes what he calls a &#8220;business blogsite&#8221;:<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">&#8220;Do you crack jokes about antitrust law? If you can, <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">you should give yourself a lot of credit, because The <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Daily Show got all geared up to do a segment on the <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Madison free-drinks antitrust problem and they gave up. <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">They didn&#8217;t know how to make it funny. That<em> is<\/em> funny.]   Having written speeches for antitrust <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">officials in Washington, back in my youth, I can confirm that coming <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">up with a good, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">ice-breaking, competition-policy joke is nearly impossible.  <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/tinycheck.gif\" alt=\"tiny check\" \/>  Also, not funny for the antitrusters at AAI: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.antitrustinstitute.org\/conference2006\/index.cfm\">IP Grab<\/a> &#8211; The <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Struggle <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Between Intellectual Property Rights &amp; Antitrust,&#8221; which is <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">the topic of <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">their Annual Conference, on June 21, 2006, in Washington, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">D.C. <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/files\/2008\/01\/deskcalr.gif\" \/>\u00a0<font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><strong><em> Our pledge to you<\/em><\/strong>: No lame attempts at humor at this website from today,<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"> March 31, 2006 through April. 2, 2006.<\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><em><strong>not funny update<\/strong> (11 PM)<\/em>: Go to <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2006\/03\/27#a6370\">our post<\/a> on Nino Scalia&#8217;s <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">crude gesture, <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">for discussion of the actual photo of the moment.
