Anthology<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&nbsp; &#8220;samePath&#8221;<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">arrived&nbsp;in yesterday&#8217;s mail,&nbsp;along with&nbsp;Christmas cards (and alumni donation appeals).<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">The book is a reminder that haikuing, like weblogging, has brought me a feeling of shared <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">community that is real and valued, despite not having met <EM>any<\/EM> of the people involved<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">face-to-face.&nbsp; Neither the haijin, nor the webloggers, would be in my life if I had<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">not started a weblog.&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">With its footprint on the cover,&nbsp;<EM><A href=\"http:\/\/www.hsa-haiku.org\/hsa-member-anthol.htm\"><FONT color=\"#000000\">Walking the Same Path<\/FONT><\/A> <\/EM>will always be special for me, <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">because it contains my very first published&nbsp;haiku (just one).&nbsp; For others, it should be<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">special because it holds one haiku&nbsp;each by 206 members of HSA, from 39 US states, 11<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">nations, and four continents.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/SamePathBackjpg.gif\" alt=\"SamePathBack\" \/>&nbsp; pointing to <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/busmovie.typepad.com\/ideoblog\/2004\/12\/cellphones_on_p.html\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">Ideoblog<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8216;s Dec. 16th posting.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Even <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">if he doesn&#8217;t count the coverage from tv station <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.waff.com\/Global\/story.asp?S=2672095\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\">WAFF<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">, posted on Dec. 9th, maybe Steve will concede <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">that the <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/query.nytimes.com\/gst\/abstract.html?res=F3081FFC3A550C738DDDAB0994DC404482\"><FONT color=\"#000000\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\"><EM>New York Times<\/EM> article<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"> that went online a full week before Ideoblog&#8217;s coverage, and appearerd in the Dec. 10, <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">2004 edition, counts as MainStream Media. The&nbsp;<EM>Harvard Gazette<\/EM>&#8216;s article <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.news.harvard.edu\/gazette\/2004\/12.16\/13-netvote.html\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"black\" size=\"2\">How did internet affect election?<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"black\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;<\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><FONT color=\"black\">(Dec. 16, 2004) describes the contribution of an assistant professor<\/FONT>, who sounds like my kind of healthy skeptic:<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;Sunshine Hillygus, assistant professor of government at Harvard, added that while grassroots mobilization <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">deserved mention, the critical story of the election was Iraq.&nbsp; Hillygus, appointed &#8220;academic curmudgeon&#8221; <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">by moderator and HLS Professor Heather Gerkin, noted several disturbing effects of the Internet on the <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">democratic process. It&#8217;s making it easier to avoid politics for those disinterested, she said; its proliferation <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">of one-sided information is polarizing politics, and it has pressured traditional news media to produce faster, <\/FONT><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">more scandal-driven, less researched news&#8221;. <\/FONT><\/DIV><\/BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&nbsp;As usual, <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.bopnews.com\/archives\/002607.html#002607\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">Christopher Lydon offers<\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"> thoughtful insight:&nbsp; <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV dir=\"ltr\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;What is to be done? The goal has to be to keep pushing the Internet effect toward the mainstream.
