{"id":5193,"date":"2004-12-14T11:35:22","date_gmt":"2004-12-14T15:35:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/formerlyknownas\/2004\/12\/14\/deck-the-hall\/"},"modified":"2011-08-05T14:58:08","modified_gmt":"2011-08-05T18:58:08","slug":"deck-the-hall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2004\/12\/14\/deck-the-hall\/","title":{"rendered":"deck the hall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a2914'><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">The haiku of <STRONG><EM><FONT color=\"#ff0000\">Carolyn Hall<\/FONT><\/EM><\/STRONG> need no decoration,&nbsp;and we are most pleased&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/joyneg.gif\" alt=\"joy neg\" \/><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">that they will be frequently adorning this weblog starting today.&nbsp; Although<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\">she first became aquainted with haiku five years ago, Carolyn <\/FONT><FONT size=\"2\">has been winning <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">so many haiku awards&nbsp;(e.g., from <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.theheronsnest.com\/haiku\/0506i1325\/thn_issue.c1.html\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\"><EM>Heron&#8217;s Nest<\/EM><\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">) that we can&#8217;t possibly list<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\">them all.&nbsp;&nbsp; You can read almost any fine haiku journal and <\/FONT><FONT size=\"2\">find examples <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT size=\"+0\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">of her work and honors&nbsp;(<EM>i.e.<\/EM>, <\/FONT><A href=\"http:\/\/www.hsa-haiku.org\/haiku-henderson.htm#2003\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"2\"><EM>frogpond<\/EM><\/FONT><\/A><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">).<\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT>&nbsp;<\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">I&#8217;ll let Carolyn introduce herself, and then start with a trio of her haiku, which<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">the editors of Red Moon Press say &#8220;delivers to the reader a sense of comfort<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">sought and, ultimately, found.&#8221;<\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<BLOCKQUOTE><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT size=\"2\"><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><EM>Carolyn says<\/EM>: &#8220;Originally a Minnesota girl, I have lived in San Francisco <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">since the early 60s. After a checkered career that included stints in histology, <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">mutual funds, advertising and child-rearing, I finally quit my day job as a <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">graphic designer and copy editor in order to take up creative writing, especially <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">memoir and short fiction. Five years ago a friend introduced me to haiku, and I <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">became totally addicted to the heightened sense of awareness haiku brought <\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Times New Roman,Times,Serif\" size=\"2\">to my life &#x2013;
