identity but it cannot be linked to a physical <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">person, persons or organization.&#8221;<\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/shiptolabelsm.gif\" alt=\"ship to label sm\" \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\"> <\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">Adopting a pseudonym\u00a0&#8212; and a pseudo-eponymous name for a weblog &#8212; is far more <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">interesting than sticking the word &#8220;anonymous&#8221; next to some generic role or title. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">I&#8217;m <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: x-small\">grateful that the anonymous authors of <\/span><\/span><a title=\"Go Ask Alice\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Go_Ask_Alice\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">Go Ask Alice<\/span><\/em><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">, <\/span><a title=\"The Way of a Pilgrim\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Way_of_a_Pilgrim\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">The Way of a Pilgrim<\/span><\/em><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">, and <\/span><a title=\"Story of O\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Story_of_O\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">Story of O<\/span><\/em><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: x-small\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">decided not to use the titles &#8220;Anonymous<\/span> Novel,&#8221; Anonymous Non-<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">Fiction Book, or &#8220;Anonymous Biography.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 They wanted to keep their own identity <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: x-small\">hidden &#8212; not the identity of the publication.<\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\"> <\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">So, unless you&#8217;re trying to corner the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">service-mark on a term that uses &#8220;anonymous&#8221;, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\">spend a little time coming up with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">an interesting and revealing title for your weblog <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">(or, you&#8217;ll end up like this weblog, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">confusing the hell out of people).<\/span><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"> <\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">Of course, if you&#8217;re merely trying to get good placement in <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">alphabetical listings, you should use the tried and true ad <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,Times,Serif;font-size: x-small\">strategy:\u00a0 Make it: \u00a0&#8220;AAAAnonymous Weblogger.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: x-small\"> Don&#8217;t forget to &#8220;Google&#8221; your proposed name before launching.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;font-size: x-small\"><em><strong>update<\/strong><\/em> (Dec. 10, 2004): The <a href=\"http:\/\/commonscold.typepad.com\/commonscold\/2004\/12\/under_covers_.html\">Common Scold<\/a>, citing an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abanet.org\/journal\/redesign\/home.html\"><em>ABA Journal<\/em><\/a> article on anonymous weblogs by associates,\u00a0 asks what her readers think about the issue.\u00a0 Let her know.
