My dual-webloggist friend, <\/font>George Wallace<\/font><\/a> has a birthday today, and <\/font>treated himself<\/font><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/font>to a self-referential “double <\/font>dactyl<\/font>”\u00a0at his Fool in the Forest<\/em> site.\u00a0 In honor of his not yet <\/font><\/font>being 50, I decided to write my very first double dactyl (a form of light verse that is defined <\/font>for you <\/font>here<\/font><\/a>\u00a0— I had to look up the rules, too, as George bends them as much as he bends <\/font>his oenophile elbow).<\/font><\/div>\n

\"wine\"\u00a0\u00a0 Since I like my male friends to have interesting foibles and saintly wives, George and I get <\/font>along <\/font>famously.\u00a0 So, here’s to you, GMW: Happy Birthday!<\/font><\/font><\/div>\n

\u00a0\"wine\"<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/font>p.s<\/em><\/strong>.<\/font> Seeking a dactylian word for wine lover (oenophile didn’t work), I discovered\u00a0 <\/font><\/font>the entry for <\/font>Gianduia<\/font><\/a> at Wikipedia (thanks to the OneLook Reverse Dictionary<\/font><\/a>):<\/font><\/font><\/div>\n

Gianduia<\/strong> is one of the <\/font>masks<\/font> of the <\/font>Italian<\/font> <\/font>Commedia dell’Arte<\/font>, typically <\/font><\/font>representing the town of <\/font>Turin <\/font>(and <\/font>Piedmont<\/font> in general). The mask depicts <\/font><\/font>an honest peasant of Piedmontese countryland, with a certain inclination for <\/font><\/font>wine<\/font>, gastronomy and beautiful girls, while strictly faithful to his lover Giacometta, <\/font><\/font>who is usually represented by a cute girl. . . . <\/font>He is dressed (in the usual version) <\/font><\/font>with a tricorn hat, a brown jacket with red borders, and has a happy humour.\u00a0 The <\/font><\/font>character of Gianduja was originally created as a <\/font>marionet<\/font> and is now Turin’s official<\/font><\/font>\u00a0“king of the <\/font>Carnival<\/font>“.<\/font><\/font>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
