{"id":4601,"date":"2003-10-01T01:29:42","date_gmt":"2003-10-01T05:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/formerlyknownas\/2003\/10\/01\/american-lawyer-2003-associat"},"modified":"2011-08-05T15:00:38","modified_gmt":"2011-08-05T19:00:38","slug":"american-lawyer-2003-associates-survey-dont-stop-that-hurts-so-good","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2003\/10\/01\/american-lawyer-2003-associates-survey-dont-stop-that-hurts-so-good\/","title":{"rendered":"American Lawyer 2003 Associates Survey: &#8220;Don&#8217;t Stop, That Hurts So Good&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a306'><\/a><\/p>\n<p><DIV><FONT face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\"><SPAN><EM>The American Lawyer<\/EM> <SPAN><STRONG><A href=\"http:\/\/www.law.com\/jsp\/article.jsp?id=1063212116880\">2003 Associates Survey<\/A><\/STRONG> was published online last night&nbsp;<\/SPAN>(dated 10-01-03).&nbsp; With the boom days gone, &#8220;midlevel associates are getting serious about their firms, their experience, and their long-term visions for the rest of their legal careers.&#8221;&nbsp; According to the&nbsp;section entitled&nbsp;<EM><A href=\"http:\/\/www.law.com\/jsp\/article.jsp?id=1063212112648\">The New Lifers<\/A>&nbsp;<\/EM>&nbsp;<EM> (by Laura Pearlman 10-01-03<\/EM>),&nbsp;many midlevel associates <STRONG>are no longer quibbling over quality of life<\/STRONG>.&nbsp;<SPAN><SPAN> Instead, they want to build careers &#8220;and they&#8217;re willing to work long and hard to do so.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/FONT><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><FONT face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\"><SPAN><SPAN><SPAN><\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/FONT><FONT face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\"><SPAN>&nbsp;<\/DIV><\/SPAN><\/FONT><\/FONT><br \/>\n<DIV><SPAN><FONT face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">The report surveyed thousands of mid-level associates from the top 158 firms in the nation.&nbsp; The <EM>article<\/EM>&nbsp; found that midlevel associates are getting serious about their firms, their experience, and their long-term visions for the rest of their legal careers.&nbsp; Survey findings include:<\/FONT><\/SPAN><\/DIV><br \/>\n<DIV><SPAN><FONT face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><\/FONT><\/SPAN>&nbsp;<\/DIV><SPAN><br \/>\n<LI><SPAN><SPAN><FONT face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"><FONT size=\"2\">In the current cold economy,<STRONG> many midlevels have given up on looking for a new job or a fatter paycheck<\/STRONG>.
