Vincent Buzard<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">; a lawyer using &#8220;<\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/search\/bin\/search?q=%22Martin%20Harding%20%26%20Mazzotti%20LLP%22&amp;t=albany\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">heavy hitter<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8221; ads; a couple of ad <\/font><br \/>\n<font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">agency heads (one of whom does not want p\/i lawyer clients); and the (in)-<\/font><br \/>\n<font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">famous <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.esjlaw.com\/toc.htm\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">E. Stewart Jones<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> (see porior posts <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2004\/02\/26#a918\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">here<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">, <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2005\/11\/03#a5241\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">here<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">, and <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2004\/02\/28#a943\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">there<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">).  Jones, <\/font><br \/>\n<font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">one of the biggest lawyer advertisers in the NY Capital Region, is quoted <\/font><br \/>\n<font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">saying about advertising:<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">                                                                                                       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/honest.gif\" alt=\"honest\" \/><\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n<font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;I think it&#8217;s a plague on the profession,&#8221; and &#8220;I recommend its abolition.&#8221; <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;There are no restrictions on what people can say about themselves. It <\/font><br \/>\n<font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">does more to misinform. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;It has become a necessary evil because it is such a competitive business <\/font><br \/>\n<font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">that if you don&#8217;t advertise, you don&#8217;t get your name out. You have to fight fire <\/font><br \/>\n<font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">with fire.&#8221; <\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Jones, who is on local tv being interviewed spouting and spinning defense lawyer clap-<\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">trap more than any other attorney, adds:  &#8220;Many of them are just absolutely tasteless. <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">It&#8217;s just a tawdry process. It cheapens the profession. If people see something is on <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">television, they think it&#8217;s great.&#8221;  <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">For my money (and my viscera), entertainment and copyright lawyer <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.paulrapp.com\/\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Paul C. Rapp<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">, <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">who teaches those subjects as an adjunct professor at <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.als.edu\/faculty\/editor.cfm?ID=321\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Albany Law School<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">, makes <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">the most sense (and, coincidentally, sounds a lot like the <em>f\/k\/a<\/em> gang) on the NYSBA <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">push to approve lawyer ads, in advance, for appropriateness and their effect on lawyer <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">image.  Rapp says &#8221; In some ways the whole notion of doing that seems dangerous <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">and misguided.&#8221;  He adds: <\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;The whole idea of trying to maintain the dignity of an entire profession, <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">and especially the legal profession &#8212; which I don&#8217;t have to quote Shakespeare <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">to you to tell you [that] for centuries this has not been grea t&#8211; by trying to <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">control how attorneys represent themselves, seems almost silly.&#8221; <\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8220;buzardMug&#8221; <font size=\"1\"> <\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"><font size=\"1\">a. vincent buzard<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Seeing Vince Buzard continue this battle &#8212; his top priority as bar President &#8212; against <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">the First Amendment and the forces of competition makes me wonder:  Why would <\/font><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">any bar association choose him to lead their association?  Why, indeed.
