He <\/font><\/font><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\">was <\/font><\/font><font size=\"-0\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">tagged by <\/font><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Ellen &#8220;Marie&#8221; Johns<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"> on Monday, February 6.  As <\/font><\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">usual, it&#8217;s <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">been left to yours truly, <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/stories\/storyReader$1574\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Prof. Yabut<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">, to do the dirty work <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">around here.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/files\/2006\/12\/NoYabutsSN.gif\" alt=\"NoYabutsSN\" height=\"64\" width=\"50\" \/>   <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">When you&#8217;ve been weird-tagged, you must do a <em>Weird List<\/em> on your <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">website &#8212; a list of five habits you have, which you or others consider <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">to be &#8220;weird.&#8221;  You also have to name and link to five new taggees, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">and let them know (in comments or email) that they have been tagged. <\/font><font face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\">(Although some taggees pen long confessions and apologia, others &#8212;<font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\"> <\/font><\/font><\/font><font face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\">see poet <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/poeticinspire.blogspot.com\/2006\/02\/ive-been-tagged.html\" rel=\"nofollow\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">Pris Campbell<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">&#8216;s quickie list &#8212; make them pithy as can be.)<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Here are a few of my so-called weird habits:<\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">1)  <em><strong>Aging Up:<\/strong><\/em>  When I wrote <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2004\/05\/25#a1552\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Aging Up: False IDs for the AARP Crowd<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">the idea that Baby Boomers would start wanting fake ID cards to &#8220;prove&#8221;  <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">they are older than their real age was meant to be a joke.  How<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">ever, it&#8217;s <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">been at least a decade since anyone (under 80) said I looked a lot younger <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">than my <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">chronological age, and I miss that postiive reinforcement.  So, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">these days, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">when I <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">meet <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">someone for the first time, I often suggest that I am <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">already <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">60ish, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">in<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">stead of my actual 56.  (This ploy has not had much success, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">to <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">date, and I might start hinting that I&#8217;m 70. That <em>should<\/em> do it, for now.)<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/tinycheck.gif\" alt=\"tiny check\" \/> To enhance the believability of my claim, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">I like    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/MagnifierWatchV.gif\" alt=\"MagnifierWatchV\" \/><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">showing off my new Dakota <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.knifesite.com\/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&amp;ProdID=1093\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">pocketwatch<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">, which has <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">a built-in magnifying glass. <\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">2) <em><strong>Backseat Desire:<\/strong><\/em>  There are quite a few foods with which I have <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">a one-night-stand relationship: they never last overnight in my home &#8212; <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">no matter how large their container or quantity.  <em>E.g.<\/em>, chocolate, pea<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">nut butter, ice cream, nuts.  To remedy this problem, I have been <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">forced to leave such non-perishable foods on the backseat (or in the <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">trunk) of my car, in a detached garage.  I then bring relatively small <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">amounts inside <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">with me for my snacking.  (I&#8217;m proud to say that, in <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">2005, I only went out <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">twice after midnight to get a second helping.)<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/sundaeG.jpg\" alt=\"sundaeG\" \/>  As for ice cream, for al<font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">most <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">30 years,<\/font> for when I&#8217;m at <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">home <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">alone, I have <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">pur<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">chased only pints <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">(and, since eating three <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">pints <\/font><font size=\"-0\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">of <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.haagen-dazs.com\/\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Haagen-Daz<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"> one night in 1977, while awaiting dinner guests, <\/font><\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">I buy <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">only one at a time).  That has not prevented <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">frequent freeze-<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">burns on the tip of my tongue from rapid <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">consumption.  Sadly, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">I can no longer have peanut around at all; as a result, I often <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">request a p&amp;j sandwich when visiting friends around lunch <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">time.<\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">3) <em><strong>Dangerous Pizza<\/strong><\/em>: Virtually <em>every<\/em> time I consume a slice of &#8220;Amer<\/font><font face=\"Arial\"><font size=\"2\">ican&#8221; <\/font><font size=\"2\">pizza, I get <\/font><\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mothernature.com\/Library\/Bookshelf\/Books\/48\/158.cfm\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">pizza burn<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"> &#8212;  a blistering lesion caused when searing <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">hot cheese meets the tender parts of your upper palate, often accom<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">panied by a loosened piece of flesh that hangs down from the roof of your <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">mouth. [click <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thebody.com\/Forums\/AIDS\/SafeSex\/Archive\/TransmissionNon\/Q139765.html\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">here<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\"> for advice on kissing with pizza burn]  Editor Giacalone, <\/font><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\" size=\"2\">despite his ethnic background, has been unable to offer useful tips. (Confi<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><font face=\"Geneva,Arial,Sans-Serif\">dentially, he has the same problem, along with his<\/font> Italian Ice <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/2005\/10\/17#a5101\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">brain freeze<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"> <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">issues.)  It&#8217;s no wonder that <em>real<\/em> Italian pizza tends to be topped with grated <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">cheeses, not mountains of the scalding melted stuff, like here in the USA.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/tinycheck.gif\" alt=\"tiny check\" \/>  Question for <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.overlawyered.com\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Walter Olson<\/font><\/a><\/em><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">: Why don&#8217;t pizza sellers fear <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">competition from  MacDonald&#8217;s?  Answer: <a href=\"http:\/\/aboutpizza.com\/page.asp?PageID=51\">here<\/a>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">                                                                                           <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/bullG.gif\" alt=\"bullG\" \/><\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">4) &#8220;<em><strong>Bloggie in the Window<\/strong><\/em>&#8220;:  It&#8217;s certainly not <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">the least bit weird, that I &#8212; <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">like the other <em>alter <\/em><\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><em>egos<\/em> around here, and people <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">of good taste in gen<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">eral &#8212; <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/stories\/storyReader$2828\">deplore<\/a> use of the word &#8220;blog,&#8221;<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">in the place of &#8220;weblog&#8221; or &#8220;web log.&#8221;  <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">None<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">theless, my Annoyer gene <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">occasionally dominates my Professor and Grown-<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Up genes, and I find myself singing a ditty <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">I call &#8220;Bloggie in the Window,&#8221; <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">whenever Editor Giacalone has been spend<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">ing too much time on his high <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">horse.  (<em>haikuEsq<\/em> will sometimes harmonize, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">using a screeching falsetto.) <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Coming soon: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/stories\/storyReader$5803\"><font color=\"#000000\">I Fought the <em>Blawg<\/em><\/font><\/a> and the <em>Blawg<\/em> Won.&#8221;<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">5)  <strong><em>Counselor-out-Law<\/em><\/strong>: Although I almost never tell anyone where to go, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">I have the uncontrollable urge to advise young (pre)adults to avoid law school <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">at all costs. Some of my best friends <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">have insisted that I cease and desist (no restraining orders yet), leaving me <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">to hand my business card to their offspring, with the URL for <em>ethicalEsq<\/em>&#8216;s <\/font><font size=\"-0\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/ethicalesq\/stories\/storyReader$3497\" class=\"navigatorLink\"><font color=\"#000000\" face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Archives<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">.<\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cyber.law.harvard.edu\/blogs\/static\/ethicalesq\/profyabutsmall.jpg\" alt=\"prof yabut small\" \/> You know, that&#8217;s my five, but I feel that I&#8217;ve scarcely gotten rolling.  <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Nonetheless, I shall stifle myself, and hope that the Current Editor <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">is duly grateful for my efforts.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><font size=\"2\"><font face=\"Arial\"><em><strong>Bonus:<\/strong><\/em> I really enjoy looking up words to see their etymology. <\/font><\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Today, I learned that&#8221;<\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.etymonline.com\/index.php?term=weird\"><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">weird<\/font><\/a><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">&#8221; comes from the Old English word <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">for &#8220;fate,&#8221; and was used to refer to the three <em>Weird Sisters<\/em>, the <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">goddesses who controlled human destiny.  Our meaning evolved, <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">because the Sisters were often depicted as being odd-looking or <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">scary.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">Have you noticed how many otherwise smart and well-educated <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">people misspell &#8220;weird&#8221;?  There are over 5 million Google <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">results <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">for incorrect form &#8220;wierd.&#8221;  They appear to be<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"> applying the  &#8220;I Before <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">E Except After C&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usingenglish.com\/weblog\/archives\/000021.html\">Rule<\/a>, without attend<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">ing to its many corollaries <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">and exceptions.  Most of the offenders seem to be <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">20-something males &#8212; those young fellows who can only memorize <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">the <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">informa<\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">tion <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">needed to win at computer games.  Don&#8217;t get me <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">started. <\/font><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\"><em><strong>New Taggees<\/strong><\/em>:  Unlike <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogger.com\/profile\/7935830\">certain<\/a> taggers, I will not tag strangers or <\/font><font face=\"Arial\" size=\"2\">people I know on the web who seem, well, strange.
