But law students are partly to blame, said Joseph Harbaugh, <\/FONT><\/DIV>

Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Would-be lawyers live too <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
comfortably while in school and fail to make the necessary <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
sacrifices, he said, adding that a quicklook at any law school <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
parking lot proves his point.  “The students’ cars are better than <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
the faculty and staff’s cars,”said Harbaugh, who is also a board <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
member of Access Group, a nonprofit provider of student loans <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
for graduate and professional degrees.  <\/FONT><\/DIV><\/BLOCKQUOTE>
\n
Another important observation is made in the article via Harbaugh:<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n

Law schools calculate the amount of money students need <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
for tuition and for living expenses into their budgets, which <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
helps determine how much federalloan money their students <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
can borrow. Harbaugh said that many law schools do a dis-<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
service to students by raising their budgets to accommodate <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
so-called cost-of-attendance fees, which are those expenses <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
that law students have for attending school other than tuition <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
and fees. <\/FONT><\/DIV><\/BLOCKQUOTE>

On the other hand, I do not buy the excuses of the Pace Law School<\/FONT><\/DIV>

efficiently.”  . . .  Your only alternative is to raise prices — the <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
fundamental driver behind this extraordinary increase,” he said.   <\/FONT><\/DIV><\/BLOCKQUOTE><\/BLOCKQUOTE>

Well, Dean Friedman, I bet you could operate a bit more efficiently. How <\/FONT><\/DIV>

about using more adjunct faculty?  And, given that there are many times <\/FONT><\/DIV>

more competent applicants for law professor slots than there are available <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
positions, how about trimming some of those fulltime teaching salaries?<\/FONT><\/DIV>
