Even if you’re not among <\/FONT>those<\/FONT><\/A> who pray regularly for our courts <\/FONT><\/DIV>

and judges — <\/FONT>or<\/FONT><\/A> are among those who pray not at all — you might <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
want <\/FONT>to note in passing that December 9th is the Catholic Church’s <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
official <\/FONT>Memorial Day<\/FONT><\/A> for <\/FONT>Saint John Roberts<\/FONT><\/A>.<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
\"StJohnRoberts\"  <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
As we pointed<\/A> out last September, St. John Roberts:<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n

\n
– had ancestors who were princes of Wales<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
– was raised Protestant<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
– studied law at the Inns of Court when he was <\/FONT>21, and <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
later that year converted to Catholicism while in France<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
– worked among <\/FONT>London plague victims<\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
– was arrested and exiled several times for performing his priestly <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
duties and <\/FONT>associating with Catholic rebels.   <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
– was finally convicted for the crime <\/FONT>of “priesthood” in 1610, and <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
was martyred (<\/FONT>hanged, drawn, and quartered<\/FONT><\/A>).  <\/FONT><\/DIV>

<\/FONT> <\/DIV>
\n
– has<\/FONT> <\/FONT><\/FONT><\/FONT>two fingers<\/FONT><\/A> [of his otherwise missing corpse] preserved at Downside <\/FONT><\/DIV>

Abbey and Erdington Abbey (we don’t know which two fingers and <\/FONT><\/DIV>
\n
we don’t vouch for this or any other saintly body parts kept as relics)<\/FONT><\/DIV>
